This is a flexible opportunity based in Phoenix, Arizona, offering primarily remote (telecommuting) work with the option for occasional in-person collaboration if needed or preferred. This role is perfect for a talented graphic designer looking for consistent part-time work (approximately 5-10 hours per week). You will play a crucial role in visually representing our daily content, primarily through engaging thumbnails for articles and impactful images for our social media platforms (posted Monday through Friday). The ideal candidate possesses a strong visual storytelling ability and can translate complex narratives into captivating single images.
**Responsibilities:**
- Design eye-catching and informative thumbnails (primarily 600 x 600 pixels) to accompany our daily articles.
- Create visually engaging and appropriately sized images for various social media platforms.
- Develop layered image files using Adobe Photoshop.
- Perform photo editing tasks to enhance visual quality.
- Optimize images for web performance (file size and format).
- Manage and organize design assets effectively.
- Collaborate with the editorial team to understand the visual needs of each story (primarily remote, with occasional in-person meetings possible).
- Meet deadlines consistently with minimal supervision after an initial training period.
- (Bonus: Video editing skills are a plus!)
**Requirements:**
- Proven ability to create high-quality JPG and PNG image files.
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, including working with layers.
- Demonstrated experience in photo editing and optimization for web use.
- Strong understanding of visual storytelling principles and the ability to convey narratives through single images.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing your own workflow effectively.
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines consistently.
- Reliable internet access and a suitable home office setup for remote work.
- Must be located in the Phoenix, Arizona area and have the ability to work remotely, with potential for occasional in-person meetings or work sessions if needed or preferred.
