The MAS in health informatics is a flexible program designed to meet the needs of working professionals, and options are available for students to continue their education on their own time.
Core courses provide a foundation in health informatics principles, health communication, health care data and databases, and healthcare leadership. Electives allow students flexibility to specialize in various areas in health informatics, such as clinical informatics and population health informatics. Other program areas include clinical workflow, telehealth and telemedicine, and human-computer interactions in health care. Course topics include:
- bioethical issues in applied biomedicine
- clinical decision support and evidence-based medicine
- health economics and policy
- telemedicine
- workflow analysis and redesign in health systems engineering

Applicants must fulfill the requirements of the Graduate College and the College of Health Solutions.
Applicants are eligible to apply to the program if they have earned a bachelor's or master's degree in a related field, such as biology, computer science, medicine, nursing, pharmacy or public health, from a regionally accredited institution.
Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (scale is 4.00 = "A") in the last 60 hours of their first bachelor's degree program, or applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (scale is 4.00 = "A") in an applicable master's degree program.
All applicants are required to submit:
- graduate admission application and application fee
- official transcripts
- resume or curriculum vitae
- two references (academic or professional)
- statement of purpose
- proof of English proficiency
Additional Admission Requirements
An applicant whose native language is not English must provide proof of English proficiency regardless of their current residency. TOEFL iBT or IELTS scores must be from tests taken no more than two years before the applicant's anticipated start date at ASU.
The statement of purpose should be a maximum of 500 words and describe the applicant's interest in the program, what they hope to learn and accomplish, and their career goals.
Contact information for two references is required. References will be contacted via email to submit a letter of recommendation. References must be current or former professors or supervisors of a relevant position held by the applicant.

3 year programs
These programs allow students to fast-track their studies after admission and earn a bachelor's degree in three years or fewer while participating in the same high-quality educational experience of a 4-year option. Students should talk to their academic advisor to get started.
Accelerated master's
These programs allow students to accelerate their studies to earn a bachelor's plus a master's degree in as few as five years (for some programs).
Each program has requirements students must meet to be eligible for consideration. Acceptance to the graduate program requires a separate application. Students typically receive approval to pursue the accelerated master’s during the junior year of their bachelor's degree program.
